An Energy Saving Trust heat pump field trial has identified that well designed and well installed heat pump systems can perform well in the UK.

An Energy Saving Trust heat pump field trial has identified that well designed and well installed heat pump systems can perform well in the UK, helping to cut home heating bills as well as reducing carbon dioxide emissions.

The Energy Saving Trust is the UK’s leading impartial organisation helping people save energy and reduce carbon emissions. Their year-long trial covering 83 sites across the UK, highlighted the real potential of heat pumps to reduce carbon emissions compared with other traditional domestic heating systems.

The findings provide valuable information about the factors that can effect the success of a domestic heat pump such as system design, system installation and customer behaviour.

Although the trials are to be extended through June 2011 to enable the collection of further data, the initial findings are encouraging and have been broadly welcomed by the heating industry.
